Exploring Abstraction
Adams highlights the simple beauty of shapes, lines, shadows, and light
20th century American photographer, Ansel Adams, was interested in exploring the abstract shapes that appear in natural landscapes. He used natural light to contrast light and dark planes, as well as lines and shadows, in vistas of mountains and dunes. He also isolated forms in his work to emphasize organic shapes. The artist created a sense of movement through the use of leading lines and repetition.
