Call for Submissions!

Want to get published in Scholastic Art? This could be your chance!

We’re looking for creative lesson plans to feature in Scholastic Art during the 2022-2023 school year. With every issue, we feature one studio project for students in grades 7-12 and one for students in grades 4-6. We’re soliciting proposals for studio project lesson plans related to the themes we’ll explore in the magazine next year. 

If you’re interested in getting your lesson plan published, please review the themes and guidelines below. Then send an email to [email protected] with your proposal. 

Proposals are due by February 25. If your proposal is selected, we’ll contact you by March 15. 

Proposals must include: 

  • Chosen theme
  • Grade level
  • Basic overview of prompt and parameters for students

Next Year’s Themes:

Oct/Nov: Precisionism: Featuring Charles Sheeler, Charles Demuth, and Georgia O’Keeffe

Dec: Street Art: Featuring SWOON and JR

Jan/Feb: Contemporary Art in West Africa

March/April: Underbelly of the Art World: Heists, Fakes, Forgeries, and Appropriation

May/June: Ceramics Right Now: Featuring Simone Leigh and Kathy Butterly

 What Happens Next: 

  • If we select your proposal, we will ask you to sign a writer’s agreement before completing the project. 
  • You’ll teach the lesson in your class, documenting the process along the way and making adjustments to the proposed lesson as necessary.
  • Parents/legal guardians of participating students will be required to sign photo release forms. 
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: Teachers whose proposals are selected will be required to take high-quality photographs of the process and final student artwork for publication. Your lesson must be your original work and must not contain anything that would require notice or compensation to, or the permission of, any third party. Please review our project documentation guidelines.
  • All materials, including the writer’s agreement, lesson plan, photographs, and photo release forms will be due by June 30, 2022.
  • Upon completion of the project, you’ll receive a modest stipend for your work.
