Try a New Tradition

Project Prompt:

Create an artwork addressing the role of tradition in contemporary life.


Parameters:

  • Develop your ideas by freewriting in your sketchbook 
  • about the words traditional and contemporary. Use traditions in your family or community for inspiration.
  • Create a series of sketches to visually represent your ideas.
  • Think about traditional and nontraditional materials. 
  • Select one or more of each to use in your final work.
  • Remember that materials carry meaning. Use this to your advantage to support your ideas!


Experiment at Home:

Work with family photos, newspaper clippings from stories about local events, and other meaningful items related to traditions.
