Arts nonprofits are organizations that serve a wide range of purposes. They can promote education, activism, and accessibility to art in communities.

Nonprofits are funded by individual donations and grants from foundations and the government. They focus on projects that benefit everyone.

Public Art Fund, founded in 1977, is a nonprofit that presents public art and collaborates on art initiatives across the country.

Recently, Public Art Fund commissioned Mexican Canadian artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer.

He installed Speaking Willow, above, in the courtyard of Planet Word, a museum in Washington D.C., that celebrates language.

The artist sculpted aluminum in the shape of a willow tree. Bell-shaped speakers hang from each branch. As visitors walk beneath them, the speakers play recordings of people talking in different languages.
