Did you know that there are differences between an art museum and an art gallery?

Both are public places that display art, but they exist for different reasons. Galleries are places of business, while museums are usually not-for-profit.

The purpose of a gallery is to sell art. Some galleries specialize in contemporary art. Other galleries feature classic or modern art.

Galleries don’t usually sell tickets for admission. Instead, revenue from art sales funds the gallery.

Anyone can walk into a gallery to view a show! But the spaces are primarily venues for art collectors to invest in talent.

Some of the biggest gallery names are Gagosian, Pace Gallery, and David Zwirner. They each have several locations in cities around the world, including in New York City and Hong Kong.
