The image to the left isn’t Photoshopped. Egyptian-born artist Konstantin Dimopoulos (KON-stun-teen dihm-OP-olus) painted the trees to call attention to deforestation (cutting down forests), a global problem that harms animals and contributes to climate change. 

Before he was an artist, Dimopoulos studied sociology, which inspired him to create art with a social purpose. He always gets permission and makes sure to work responsibly. To protect the trees he paints, Dimopoulos uses nontoxic paint made of chalk and pigment that washes off over time. “I wouldn’t do anything to a tree that I wouldn’t do to myself,” says the artist.
