Painting Narratives
How does Marc Chagall share stories in his artworks?
This article explores the artistic techniques Marc Chagall uses to create fantastic visual narratives about the real and the imaginary. In his painting Bella With a White Collar, Chagall uses scale to show the significant role his wife played in his life. In The Branch, the artist plays with saturation and contrast to evoke a dreamlike mood. In The Violoncellist, he paints whimsical characters in a scene that embellishes memories from his youth.
