Patrick Cabral’s paper sculptures do double duty—for art and advocacy. The Filipino artist creates realistic images of tigers, pandas, and other endangered species using cut paper.
For each animal, Cabral cuts multiple layers of paper by hand and arranges them so they have depth. Then he displays the works at eye level, placing the viewer and the animal face-to-face.
Deforestation, poaching, and climate change are big threats to animals. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, nearly 13,000 species face the threat of extinction. Cabral donates half the proceeds from the sale of his artwork to the World Wildlife Fund in the Philippines. The artist hopes his work will help protect these animals and raise public awareness about the dangers they face.
