5 Contemporary Photographers to Know
These contemporary photographers experiment with the medium, developing new ways to capture the world around them. Gerhard Richter, a German artist, paints on his snapshots, creating mixed media photographs. American artist Cindy Sherman portrays different identities in her self-portraits. British artist Isaac Julien creates narratives in his installations, which incorporate photographs and video. Carrie Mae Weems is an African-American photographer whose work focuses on families, power, and race. Andreas Gursky, a German artist, digitally joins multiple images to create large-scale, immersive works.
