Katsushika Hokusai is best known as a printmaker but worked in other media as well. He created the iconic series of prints Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, which was so popular he eventually added to the series. Hokusai was also one of the leading makers of tatebanko, prints that could be cut apart and made into three-dimensional dioramas. Hokusai’s work inspired many artists, including Western artist Mary Cassatt. And while his work inspired artists from all over the world, he believed there was always more to learn about his craft.
