5 Things to Know About Alexander Calder
Alexander Calder used wire to create sculptures that are like three-dimensional line drawings. He often worked in black, white and contrasting primary colors. He saw jewelry as another form of sculpture and created one-of-a-kind works of wearable art. Nature inspired Calder, and many of his works are abstractions recalling animals and plants. Calder was constantly reworking and revising his sculptures, always aiming to use the best combination of shapes and materials to achieve balance.
