1) What are the system requirements for the Scholastic Art magazine Web site?
Web Browsers:
- For PC: Internet Explorer 7 or higher; Firefox 3.x or higher; Chrome 3 or higher
- For Macintosh: Safari 3.x or higher; Firefox 2.x or higher.
- Flash 10 or higher.
- JavaScript and Browser cookies must be enabled.
- To get the most out of those parts of Scholastic.com that are rich in multimedia, we recommend a broadband connection. In addition to the technical specifications for an individual computer, it is important to have good Internet bandwidth in your school to access Art, which is packed with multimedia assets.
- Note that Scholastic.com no longer supports Mac OS 9 browsers, such as Internet Explorer for Macintosh.
Display Settings:
- 1024 × 768 pixels or higher resolution recommended.
- 256 or more colors.
Other Hardware:
- Speakers or headphones for audio content.
Required Plug-ins, Browser Settings and Helper Applications:

Adobe Flash Player is required for all multimedia on Scholastic.com. Flash Player is a free download from Adobe. You need Flash 10 or higher installed on your computer to play video on the Web site and use the interactive issues. We recommend downloading the latest version of Flash for optimal performance. You will find a downloadable version of Flash at the following link:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ - Scholastic.com occasionally makes use of pop-up windows to present important information such as Help screens. If you are using pop-up blocker software, you may not be able to view these screens. Consult the Help section of your pop-up blocker software to learn how to disable it or to explicitly allow pop-up windows on Scholastic.com.

2) Do I need to subscribe to Scholastic Art to access the Web site?
You will need a subscription to Scholastic Art magazine to have access to the digital resources on the Scholastic Art Web site.
We create the highest-quality digital resources for you, our subscribers, to support and enhance your teaching with Scholastic Art magazine. Password-protecting our content will enable us to continue to do so.
3) Can international subscribers have access to the Web site?
For information about international access, subscribers from Canada should call the Canadian toll-free number 1-888-752-4690 or click here to e-mail us. Subscribers from all other non-U.S. countries should e-mail us or call 1-646-330-5288.
4) How will I know my password when I need it?
You will be prompted to log in using a username and password. If you have previously registered on Scholastic.com, you can use that username and password. If you have not previously registered on Scholastic.com, simply complete a quick one-time registration on the site to create a username and password. Once you have registered, you can log in at any time.
5) How do I begin using the Web site?
You will need to complete a one-time registration on Scholastic.com in order to log in to the magazine Web site. :
- If you have already registered on Scholastic.com, and the subscription to the magazine is in your name, simply enter your username and password in the teacher login boxes on the left side of the home page.
- If you are not yet a registered user on Scholastic.com, you will need to create a user name and password. Click the blue Register Now! button on the left side of the home page (or the link below). Then select the first or second option and follow the instructions. You will gain access to the Web site 24 hours after creating the new username and password. Click here to Register Now!
- If your subscription is in the name of a colleague or administrator, please e-mail customer service 1-800-SCHOLASTIC and a customer service representative will be happy to assist you in setting up access to your online resources.
6) Where can I find my customer number?
You will find your customer number on the shipping label of your magazine bundle. If your subscription is in your own name, you should be able to register for online access with or without your customer number. If your subscription is part of a bulk order placed by a colleague or administrator, you will need to request that your name be added to the order by a Scholastic customer service representative. Click here to send an e-mail request to Scholastic customer service, or call 1-800-SCHOLASTIC.
For instance, if your school places a bulk order for six 1st grade classrooms by ordering 120 issues in one order, the person whose name is on the order will automatically gain access to the magazine Web site. For the other teachers to gain access, Customer Service will have to add their names to the order. The representative can add all the teacher names with one phone call. Please call Customer Service at 1-800-SCHOLASTIC (1-800-724-6527).
7) I have multiple Scholastic customer numbers. How do I know which one to use?
The customer number printed on your magazine bundle label should be the right number to use when you complete the one-time online registration process. If you are unable to gain access with this number, please click here to e-mail us or call Scholastic customer service at 1-800-SCHOLASTIC (1-800-724-6527), then press #2. Telephone support is provided Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. EST and Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. EST.
8) I have multiple Scholastic usernames and passwords. How do I know which one to use?
You can attempt to login using the trial and error method to identify which username and password is linked to the classroom magazine subscription. Or contact us for help. Our customer service representatives can look up your magazine subscription and confirm the username and password. You will need to provide personal information to help them identify your account and verify the username and password that can be used to login to the magazine Web site.
9) I logged in to Scholastic.com, but I can't get into the magazine Web site or the digital issue.
If you have logged in to Scholastic.com, you will see your name in the top right of the Web site header. However, if you are still having trouble opening the digital issue and gaining access to the Web site multimedia teaching resources, you may need to contact customer service.
Some teachers have multiple Scholastic accounts and our customer service representatives will need to make sure your unique username and password are linked to the magazine subscription. 10) I completed the online registration, but I can't get into the magazine Web site or the digital issue.
You will be able to access the magazine Web site, including the digital issue and multimedia teaching resources 24 hours after completing the online registration. After 24 hours, if you are still having trouble, contact our Customer Service Department to make sure your subscription is linked to your username and password. 11) Can my students access Scholastic Art?
Yes. Students can log in to Scholastic Art at home, in a computer lab, or on classroom computers using a student password.
Logging in with a student password will take students to the Student View, where they will not see or have access to teacher-specific information, such as the Teacher's Edition, answer keys, or skills sheets.
We have provided a default student password that will always take students to the current issue of Scholastic Art. You may also create student passwords for past issues at any time. To find your default student password or to create new ones, click on the "Edit your profile / Passwords" link in the white box where your name appears after you have logged in.
12) What if I have technical difficulties or difficulty registering?
There are several ways to get help for any problems you may experience:

13) What version of Flash should I download for optimal performance?
You need Flash 10 or higher installed on your computer to play video on the Web site and use the interactive issues.
We recommend downloading the latest version of Flash for optimal performance. You will find a downloadable version of Flash at the following link:

14) What if I have trouble playing videos?
The video performance will vary depending on the user’s Internet connection and the number of teachers accessing a video simultaneously.
If you are able to access the Scholastic Art Web site prior to beginning your lesson, you can start to load the video onto your computer in advance. Simply click the video button and then press pause. The pause button is on the bottom left of the video player toolbar. The pause button toggles between pause and play. When the video player is in the paused mode, the video will continue to load. When you are ready to begin your lesson, simply press play to begin the video.
You can load the video a few minutes prior to a lesson or hours in advance.
15) How do I access a video for a prior issue of Scholastic Art?
All of the videos, as well as the complete digital issues of Scholastic Art, are available within the Issue Archive. Simply click the blue "Issue Archive" button on the left side of the home page.
Inside the Issue Archive, you will see a thumbnail image of each issue’s cover and have the ability to search for an issue by keyword and issue date. When you click on the thumbnail image, the digital issue uploads into the home page. Videos, teacher resources, and other online materials for that issue will be accessible from this page.
You can also search for a specific video under the blue “Search Art Scholastic” button. Enter a keyword; under “Filter by Media Type,” check “Video / Slide Show”; then click “See Results.”
16) What do I do if the issue is taking a very long time to load?
The loading time will vary depending on a user’s Internet connection and the number of teachers accessing the same issue simultaneously.
If your computer does not load all the pages of an issue, select the “Show All Pages” icon in the toolbar and select any page of the digital issue. This icon is to the left of the “Home” icon. When you select a specific page, it will load that page more quickly and continue to load the rest of the digital issue.
17) How can I get page 2 to load? It doesn't seem to load for any of the digital issues.
If this page or any other page doesn't load, click Show All Pages from the toolbar. You will find it to the left of the Home icons. Click Show All Pages and select that page.18) What do I do if my students are trying to access the video at once and the video doesn’t play well?
Many school networks do not have enough bandwidth for all students to play the same video simultaneously. We recommend that the teacher begin a lesson with Scholastic Art by playing the video on a whiteboard, projector, or large monitor. The videos are designed to build interest in the feature article of the issue and motivate students to read their issue of Scholastic Art. After watching a video together, students can explore the digital issue and interactive activities on their own.
19) Why can’t I print my digital issue of Scholastic Art?
Because the Scholastic Art digital resources are meant to be used with an interactive whiteboard for whole-class participation or on individual computers, we don’t allow users to print Scholastic Art pages.
However, you can print our useful skills sheets, the entire Teacher’s Edition, and other pdf files on the Teaching Resources Web page.
20) Where can I find my Teacher’s Edition?
Look for the orange Teaching Resources button on the upper left of the magazine Web site home page.

Click on this button to find a downloadable version of your print Teacher’s Edition, as well as additional teaching resources for each issue.
21) Where can I find the magazine skills sheets?
You will find skills sheets on the magazine web site. Once you have signed in, click on the Skills Sheets button to the right of the Teaching Resources button. Then simply click the title of the skill sheet and it will open a printable pdf file. Depending on the browser you are using, you may be prompted to either open, save or cancel.
22) Where can I find the Answer Key?
The Answer Key can be found on the Teaching Resources page. If a teacher is looking for a past issue, they will find them in the Issue Archive.
23) How do I use the Text Highlighter?
Clicking the Text Highlighter tool in the digital issue toolbar activates the highlighter for all visible pages. The Text Highlighter icon will be red and all other toolbar icons will be inactive. The tool for the two-page spread displayed. Click the Text Highlighter once to de-activate it and go to another page. If you click the Text Highlighter two times, it will clear the highlighting on the page.
24) How can I enable pop-ups (or turn off my pop-up blocker)?
The Scholastic Art Web site requires that you enable pop-ups in your browser settings. If you see the message “Did You Notice the Information Bar?” use the pull-down menu and select “Always allow pop-ups from this site.”
25) Can I save my Digital Sticky Notes? Where can I find them?
You have the ability to save Digital Sticky Notes within your digital issues of Scholastic Art. For example, if you're looking at an article that you want to remember or note, click the Digital Sticky Notes icon and type in a note. That note will be saved in your profile and on that issue. You may hide your notes so they are not visible after you have saved them.
